Are you sitting in the shade yet?

'Someone is sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree a long time ago'.

So said American billionaire and financial wizard Warren Buffett.

And I’m not going to question the wisdom of a man whose financial seeds have predominantly grown into mighty Oak trees consistently over the years.

He’s the world’s most successful investor, with decades of experience and fondly called the Sage of Omaha. And he talks a heck of a lot of common sense.

When I saw this quote it really resonated with me and what good lifestyle financial planning is all about.  Take action, think longer term and you (or your family) will reap the benefits in the future.

And as the year draws to a close, it’s always a great time to review what we’ve done to look after that ‘tree’. Is it healthy? Is it still growing? Just how much shade will it give you in the future.

For some people the New Year will be a catalyst to take action and plant that tree if they want to reap its shady benefits a few years down the line.

Keeping on the tree theme (I feel a bit like Alan Titchmarsh at the moment), it’s vital that you plant them in the right places in terms of knowing what you want to achieve and then get someone who knows what they are doing to guide you in how to nurture them fully and properly.

I'm saying this with Spring not too far away. So grant me some credit for being optimistic at least!
