Get Busy Living

There’s a memorable line from one of the most popular films ever. That being The Shawshank Redemption.
Tim Robbins character, Andy, his friend and fellow jailbird, Red played by Morgan Freeman said - 'It’s a simple choice, you either get busy living or get busy dying'.
It sums up my approach to life and financial planning in a lot of ways.
I’ve often said that my job as a financial planner is to ‘make my client’s money last as they long as they do’. There’s also something I can add to that and it’s that life offers no guarantees, apart from two often stated ones. Yep, death and taxes.
So, with that in mind I always encourage people to plan for the life they really want and to start living it right now.
Tomorrow isn’t a given and we never know what’s around the corner.
And if your money and financial matters are well thought out, planned, reviewed and revised constantly then there’s no reason why you can’t live the life you want.
Retirement planning is a big part of my job. It’s wise and beneficial to put money away for when, or should I say if, you want to retire.
It’s vital that your investments, whatever they are, are working on your behalf.
But it’s also important that you enjoy life now, right now and whatever that means to you. Especially if you have the means to do it.
I’ve seen too many people work themselves into the ground and then when they do retire, all that hard graft and stress has taken such a toll that they can’t physically enjoy their retirement as much as they want to.
