The art of evolution

A few weeks ago, I was conducting a follow on Discovery Meeting with some new clients. This being where we identify what they’re trying to achieve, why and by when.
What caught my attention, was a T-shirt one of them were wearing. Which with their permission, I captured as this image.

I thought it was perfectly succinct. And superbly illustrated the evolution of life and how we evolve. But more so, the importance that solid lifestyle financial planning plays. And in the context of our discussions. Albeit that the specifics of this image may not apply to everyone, where they are dog lovers like me too.
Last month, I talked about the evolution of change. Where change is a certainty. As nothing remains the same for ever.
When it comes to looking after your finances, clarity is key. You need to know what you have, ideally what you can expect to acquire in the future, and you certainly need to be clear on where you want to eventually end up.
Once you accept that certain things are beyond our control, we can assess the situation and take an alternative course that’s most appropriate.
Undertaking the groundwork in lifestyle financial planning terms, by detailing those desires and wishes, allows us to create a coherent plan. And having a Plan B as an option helps also.
Thereafter, it’s about regularly reviewing, monitoring and making adjustments as needs be.
Again as I said last month, there are always things that are going to change in our lives. Whether it be by choice and instigated by us. Or external, and perhaps something that we can’t control. Regardless, we have to be adaptable.
Remember that life is not a rehearsal, and we only get one crack at it. And although the money is important, it’s what we do with it that really counts.
